Remember the beautiful 2012 Netflix documentary "Jiro Dreams Of Sushi"? It features the then 90-year old Jiro Ono's life's project - a Michelin star sushi joint in a what looks like Tokyo subway station. Jiro had his disciples, among them one of his sons, work months, sometimes years, perfecting a single process before they were allowed to advance. Massaging octopus, cooking rice, making omelettes. TO. PERFECTION. But the road to perfection is not glamorous.

If there's an Italian Jiro Ono out there, chances are it's our guy at Millefilli, the Prato-based mill that makes the yarn for The Cashmere Sweater. He's spent years working on the manual process of sorting post-consumer knitwear for mechanical recycling. Every piece requires ocular inspection and manual sorting, effectively calibrating the quality and color of the yarn-to-be, by carefully matching the right quality and hue of garments. It's a needle-in-a-haystack type puzzle. It's tedious. There is no magic machine for it.

Back in 2020 we made a conscious choice to switch to recycled cashmere, when we found no way to guarantee safe labour conditions, animal welfare and land management in our cashmere supply chain. We knew that despite technical parity, the connoisseurs out there would still be able to feel a subtle difference between virgin cashmere and our recycled cashmere.

But consider this, if you're on the fence regarding our Cashmere Sweater: Apart from the obvious environmental and ethical credentials, qualitative parity and cemented popularity four seasons later - each piece is a work of art.
